Art Centres in ANKA’s regions are not-for-profit Aboriginal owned enterprises which sell and distribute art. They are also commonly: museums or keeping places; art studios and workshops; repositories for Indigenous cultural knowledge; meeting places for diverse cultural and language groups; and contemporary art schools where elders educate new generations of artists.

These dynamic not-for-profit organisations also facilitate the protection of artists’ intellectual and cultural property, and provide employment, income-earning and training opportunities for Aboriginal people. Art Centres are frequently the only Aboriginal owned business and source of independent income in remote communities. Buying art from Art Centres means buyers can be assured of the provenance of objects and that they are buying ethically with 100% of returns going directly to artists and their Indigenous owned and operated community organisations.
